• For unaccompanied trailers the padlock can be removed once security and
immigration controls are complete and you are safely within the dock confine. This
also applies to trailers dropped in Portsmouth port. If you are accompanying the
trailer to FTL the padlock should not be removed until you are at the depot.
The important thing is that both a seal and padlock are fitted and recorded on the
immigration sheet. This demonstrates to the authorities that we are doing all we can to
desist any clandestine entrants and adhere to boarder force rules.
• Do not park in unsuitable or unauthorized areas. Speak to a member of the
transport team if you are unsure of a safe place to park when on the road overnight.
• Your vehicle checks must be carried out using R2C twice daily.
• The trailers immigration form’s final check must be done before arrival at the port.
• Whilst out on the road you should also be regularly checking the vehicle for any
signs of forced entry. If you fear that the trailer has been entered illegally you should
contact the local authorities immediately and then contact the office. Please do not
put yourself in ANY danger or confront any unauthorized persons. Your safety is of
paramount importance.
• If you are ever required to open the trailer for customs or boarder force checks,
please ensure the officer in charge checks the seal against your records and that
they sign the form to confirm.
• Prior to departure from the port or place of exit, seek the assistance of a
representative of the Ferry Company or port staff to check or verify the trailer
contains no illegal human cargo. Re-seal the trailer, making note of the number and
ask the representative to witness that the trailer has been checked and sealed. If
you are refused assistance, please mark on the form that the declined. DO NOT get
upset or angry at any time.
• Keep accurate records of the location and time you carry out each of your checks. It
may well assist in your defense should you ever be accused of carrying clandestine
entrants.
• Immigration forms must be handed in with your worksheet every week if you ship
with your trailer. If you drop the trailer in the French port please leave the
immigration form with the load documents/envelope.
