8.5.1 Vehicle Security Procedures
To minimize the risk of clandestine entrants gaining access to your vehicle please observe
the following procedure at all times.
The first step to ensuring the security of your vehicle is to ALWAYS ensure you have the
correct equipment when on the road. The table below outlines the types of equipment
provided, the quantity that you should have available to you at any time and the procedure
for how that item is acquired.
Item Quantity Issued Procedure
TIR Cords 1 on trailer TIR cords are on the trailers and
1 spare with driver maintained regularly but drivers should
always carry a spare with them in case of
damage on the road
Please speak with a member of the
logistics team if you need a replacement
Seals 50 Seals are issued by the transport office
and when you are down to your last 10
you should come and collect more. The
serial numbers of the batch you have
taken are recorded by the office
Padlock 2 If padlocks are lost or damaged please
inform a member of the transport team
immediately and they will be replaced
You may choose to use your own
padlock which is fine so long as they are
used appropriately
If you have any issues with equipment or are missing anything please report to a member
of the transport team immediately.
When on the road the following steps should be observed at all times:
• When loading be vigilant. Do not allow unauthorized people to enter the trailer or
truck. Following loading always enter the trailer and check to ensure there are no
stowaways hiding within the load.
• Following loading, affix the TIR cord and seal the cord and trailer. THE SEAL
NUMBER MUST BE RECORDED ON THE IMMIGRATION FORM. The padlock
must then be fixed on the righthand side rear door and recorded on the immigration
form.
