5 Smoking
It is against the Law to smoke in any company vehicle or building under the
Smoke Free Regulations 2006. All vehicles including plant must display a no
smoking symbol in the cab under the regulations, and if it is missing you must
report this to your manager and report it on your daily vehicle check sheet.
Any employee found smoking in their vehicle, or company building by the Police
or Local Authority may incur a fixed on the spot penalty, and as a result could
also incur a fine to the Company.
Smoking will only be permitted in designated areas at all TJ or third-party sites and it must be 10m
from areas where combustible materials are stored/processed. There will be suitable receptacles
for extinguishing cigarettes provided i.e. sand bin, wall mounted ash tray etc. Please ask where
they are and use them.
Electronic Cigarettes
It is currently company policy that all electronic cigarettes shall
not be used whilst driving or within buildings at TJ premises. It is expected that this policy will be
followed and failure to comply could lead to disciplinary procedures being brought against you.
6 Staff Welfare Facilities
These areas are for all employees to rest and consume food and drink, they are not a storage
area for items removed from the waste.
As such a cleaning rota exists on all sites and you will be expected to take part and do your bit to
keep these communal areas clean and tidy for all. Your site foreman will be responsible for the
allocation of persons to the rota and ensuring compliance.
Toilet Facilities
These again will be cleaned on a rota basis to ensure TJ complies with the law and our
expectations as a company. The toilet facilities are there for all staff and visitors on site to use and
should be kept clean and properly stocked with hand towel, soap, and cleaning detergents.
Washable hand towels are not provided by TJ and should not be used at any TJ site.
Please respect the facilities that are provided for your use
7 Personal Hygiene
Due to the type of industry we work in, there could be a risk of catching infections
if you do not thoroughly wash your hands before eating or drinking as gloves only
offer a limited amount of protection and can become contaminated.
Due to the type of industry you are working in you should ensure that your tetanus injection is up
to date and if you have any cuts or abrasions keep them covered up at all times to keep out
infections. Please ensure that you speak to your manager or a director if you have any concerns
about your health and wellbeing whilst at work.
