4 Respiratory Protective Equipment
Care of RPE
All staff have been issued with RPE
Correct care and maintenance of RPE must be followed
The RPE you have been issued with is a rubber half mask from JSP (Force 8), the construction of
the mask is of silicon rubber and the filters are of a replaceable type. You may also be supplied
with a bag for storage. This is an expensive item purchased for your protection and must be looked
after effectively to offer you the protection you need to carry out your role at TJ.
Whilst wearing the JSP Force 8 respiratory protective equipment (RPE) on the picking line it essential that the
following criteria is met to ensure it’s suitability to protective you from inhalable and respirable dust:
• You must be clean shaven.
• You must pass face fit testing.
• You must check the cleanliness of your mask before use
• You must check the filters before use, and should be changed immediately if:
➢ Breathing difficulties due to clogging are experienced.
➢ Chemical breakthrough of a contaminant is detected by smell, tastes, or any other means.
➢ The filter becomes damaged.
After approximately one hour you must remove your face mask to re-adjust and then reapply to your face whilst
ensuring a tight-fitting seal. This also helps remove any build up of Co2 within your mask.
