3 Personal Protective Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment
The Company supplies Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for your safety whilst carrying out
your daily operations. Operatives are supplied with protective footwear, gloves, high visibility
clothing and eye protection which must be worn at all appropriate times during working hours.
Hard hats should be worn when outside of your mobile plant at all times the only exception is
within the picking station and welfare areas where hard hats can be removed. Respiratory
protective equipment and ear defenders are also provided and must be used when directed or as
required. If any of the PPE or RPE becomes defective or missing, you must notify your manager
so a replacement can be arranged immediately.
When working in the transfer station you must ensure that you are wearing the correct gloves that
are suitable for the tasks you are carrying out please ask your manager if you are unsure. Gloves
use the following guide rating:
Abrasion resistance 0-4 Blade-cut resistance 0-5 Tear resistance 0-4 Puncture resistance 0-4
At the time of going to print TJ are using a 2243 General Purpose Glove. A Rigger Type
Glove 4143 or a Nitrile style Rubber Glove 4131 that can be used with the General
Purpose Glove for hand sorting in wet conditions.
It is TJ company policy that all staff and visitors on the site must wear high visibility
clothing whilst on the company property, if you see anyone not wearing their PPE please
report it to your manager immediately.
If you are unsure how to wear or use your safety equipment, you must ask your manager to explain
the correct procedure for using the equipment. You will undergo a face fit test for your respiratory
protective equipment if this is required.
Employees must not wear shorts or go bare top at any time whilst at work.
Your PPE must be kept clean and serviceable to ensure your safety at work if you require
new PPE then please speak to your manager.
