Operation of a Loading Shovel.
1. Always look around and confirm location of bystanders before
moving the machine.
2. Use mirrors and check blind spots at all times.
3. Do not make contact with overhead electric wires or buildings.
4. When driving over rough terrain reduce engine speed and select
slow travel speed.
5. If you are travelling down a ramp with a loaded bucket then reverse down as this will prevent
the machine from tipping forwards.
6. Beware of pinch points when driving an articulated vehicle.
7. Take care when working in confined spaces that you do not get the machine stuck against
the wall.
8. Make sure the work site has sufficient strength to firmly support the machine.
9. Never position a bucket over anyone or allow anyone to stand in the bucket.
10. When machine is forming the stockpile ensure that the ramp has at least a 1mx1m bunding
along the edges.
11. Handle fuel with care as it can be highly flammable when spilt on a hot engine.
12. Do not refuel the machine whilst smoking or when near open flame or sparks.
13. Always stop apply the handbrake and turn off the machine before refuelling.
14. It is company policy when purchasing or hiring new machines that they are supplied with air
conditioning. This enables operatives to work in a dust free environment. The correct
procedure for operating air conditioning is that you close all doors and windows and set the
air conditioning to a comfortable temperature. It is pointless having the air conditioning on
with the doors and/or windows open. This defeats the object of a dust free environment.
Please use the air conditioning in the proper manner for your own welfare.
