Operation of a Forklift Truck

                1. Always look around and confirm the location of bystanders before moving or operating the
machine. The operator must ensure that a distance of 3 metres is
maintained from pedestrians, vehicles or plant at all times. If in
doubt you must STOP gain their attention and request that they
                    move away.

                2. Use mirrors at all times ensuring they are clean and correctly
                    adjusted.

                3. Beware of overhead obstructions such as buildings and electrical cables
                4. Use a reversing assistant when operating machines in congested areas.

                5. Select a travel route as flat as possible and do not travel with the mast raised.
                6. If a safe working load limiter is fitted it must be correctly adjusted and be switched on at all
                    times.

                7. Do not make contact with electric wires, if you do stay in the machine unless you are at risk
from fire in which case jump clear ensuring that you do not touch any metal parts of the cab
or machine as you do so.

                8. When driving over rough terrain reduce engine speed and select slow travel speed.
                9. Make sure the work site has sufficient strength to firmly support the machine.

                10. Avoid operations that may damage undercarriage components.

                11. Never position forks, loads or attachments over anyone or allow them to stand in the bucket
                    or on the forks/pallet etc.
                12. When the operator is loading a vehicle with baled products, they must ensure that the driver
of the LGV Vehicle is in a safe position away from the operation before and during loading.
Operators must also ensure that they have read and understood the safe systems of work
relevant to the loading ramp if this is being used.
                13. Ensure that extra care is taken as visibility can be reduced when moving bales and the
operator is reminded that they should reverse if visibility is obscured. Use a trained reversing
assistnat to aid in the reversing manoeuvre where necessary.
                14. Handle fuel with care as it can be highly flammable around hot engines.

                15. Do not refuel the machine whilst smoking or when near open flame or sparks.

                16. Always stop the machine and apply the handbrake before refuelling.
                17. Clean debris regularly from under the machine and frame.

EXERCISE CARE AND VIGILANCE AT ALL TIMES.
