Personnel issued with hearing protection are to be advised of the risk if it is not worn,
repaired, replaced and maintained, given adequate training and ‘accommodation’ for the
                   item when not in use.
Employees should be aware that EAR / Bilson ear plugs (expanding foam insertion type) can
cause contamination of the ears if they are inserted when the hands are dirty or infected with
                   oils, chemicals, etc.

When Foremen, Managers check personal ear protection (Ear defenders) they should look
for signs of damage, ageing or abuse. Particular attention should be paid to the cushion seals
which may become hardened or torn and thus reduce their efficiency. Ear defender should
be kept in a plastic bag or box in order to keep they clean. A written record of the checks
should be kept and produced for inspections or when requested.

New plant suspected of being a noise hazard should be monitored as soon as possible
after installation and any remedial noise reduction requirements identified and
                   implemented.

Noise assessments will be repeated if it is suspected that noise exposure has risen,
otherwise assessments will be reviewed and repeated at regular intervals.

In accordance with the Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and the Personal Protective
Equipment Regulations 1992, management are to provide free of charge and are to ensure
the use of personal hearing protection as a last resort, where it is not possible to control
the noise to below hazardous levels by other means.

Site supervisors hold a range of hearing protection for use by personnel.
