be paid to transparent screens fixed to machines to ensure that pitting does not significantly
interfere with vision through them and that they are replaced whenever this occurs.
Facilities should be provided to assist users to take care of the equipment and to replace
lost and defective items. Supplies of lens cleaner fluid and lens tissue should be kept
available in clearly marked containers, and suitable ‘accommodation’ provided.
The arrangements for the issue, maintenance, and replacement, of eye protection, plus
the use of eye protection should be included in section safety instructions.
Prescription Lenses for Safety Spectacles. Where there are special circumstances or no
other satisfactory method of eye protection can be achieved, the provision of prescription
safety lenses may be justified.
1.18 Respiratory Protective Equipment
You may be provided with an air fed respirator for use when dealing with
nuisance dust these will have filters to P3 or an APF of 20. They can be
used for welding and grinding also if
Alternatively you may be provided with either a disposable style
or a reusable rubber half mask again to the P3 standard. These
masks must be face fit tested to ensure that they fit you correctly
meaning that you should only use the same style and manufacturer that
you were tested for as different masks fit different face shapes.
No Facial hair around the mask sealing area must be present for them to work correctly. If you
have a beard then you must only use an air fed style respirator.
