1.13 PPE Requirements and Use
Personal Protective Equipment
The Company supplies Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for your safety whilst carrying
out your daily operations. Operatives are supplied with protective footwear, gloves, high
visibility clothing, eye and ear protection which must be worn at all appropriate times during
working hours.
Respiratory protective equipment is also provided and must be used when directed or as
required. If any of the PPE or RPE becomes defective or missing, you must notify your
manager so a replacement can be arranged immediately.
When working at Harrison Industrial you must ensure that you are wearing the correct gloves
that are suitable for the tasks you are carrying out please ask your manager if you are unsure.
Gloves use the following guide rating:
➢ Abrasion resistance 0-4
➢ Blade-cut resistance 0-5
➢ Tear resistance 0-4
➢ Puncture resistance 0-4
It is Harrison Industrial company policy that all staff and visitors on the site will
wear clothing with High Visibility elements whilst in the yard or factory. If you
see anyone not wearing their PPE please report it to your manager
immediately.
If you are unsure how to wear or use your safety equipment, you must ask your manager to
explain the correct procedure for using the equipment. You will undergo a face fit test for your
respiratory protective equipment if this is required.
Employees must not wear shorts or go bare top at any time whilst at work.
Your PPE must be kept clean and serviceable to ensure your safety at work if
you require new PPE then please speak to your manager.
1.14 Employees Responsibilities
It is the employee’s responsibility to use / wear any PPE provided. It is a company condition of
service that an employee wears or uses any special clothing or equipment issued to him for
his safety, irrespective of any obligation under a statutory requirement.
• Not to misuse the equipment and return PPE to any storage provided.
• To report to management any defects in the PPE and to co-operate with management
to maintain good safety arrangements.
• Protective clothing which becomes contaminated during use must be disposed of as
special waste
1.15 Safety Helmets (Wearing of)
Safety helmets have a limited life and may be weakened by exposure to sunlight, chemicals
and by severe impact or other damage. The maximum replacement period for a safety helmet
is 5 years from date of manufacture unless damaged. The date of manufacture is embossed
on the underside peak of each helmet with a CE mark and 2-digit year date surrounded by 4
