4 First Aid, Accident and Near Miss Reporting.
4.1 First Aid
Employer’s duties in relation to the provision of First Aid facilities are contained in the
Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
They define First Aid as meaning:
✓ Treatment for the purpose of preserving life and minimising the
consequences of injury and illness until help from a medical practitioner
or nurse arrives; and
✓ Treatment of minor injuries, which would not otherwise receive treatment
or which do not need treatment by a medical practitioner or nurse.
Harrison Industrial maintains a number of employees suitably trained and equipped to
assist with on-site emergencies. Only these appointed persons are permitted to carry out
First Aid as per their training. No other employee may administer First Aid to another
member of staff or the general public.
First aiders at Harrison Industrial are displayed around the
business noticeboards
The duties of a First Aid Appointed Person are:
✓ Take charge of the situation (e.g. to call an ambulance) if there is a
serious injury or illness
✓ To be responsible for the First Aid equipment (e.g. ensure First Aid kits
are kept stocked, ensuring the Book is filled out correctly)
The Harrison Industrial site has a fully
stocked First Aid Kit and Eye Wash station.
You must notify your supervisor / manager if:
Stocks need replenishing
First Aid kit missing
Remember if you use an item from any first aid kit you must complete the accident
book.
