Secure the harness across the front with the 2 straps and buckles as shown in A and B.
2. Check the fall arrester for any damage including the cable, and ensure the brake works by
giving it a snatch.
3. Check the safety lanyard in the telescopic boom for cuts and check the karabiners lock
shut. The lanyard in the MEWPS (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) is not a fall arrestor it
should be secured to the centre of the basket and should be the correct length preventing
you from being able to leave the basket with the lanyard attached.
4. Connect the karabiner to the ring on the rear of the harness (Diagram 10)
5. The wearer can now safely carry on with the task by;
Telescopic boom operators
➢ Step into the basket and connect the other end of the lanyard to the bracket on the
basket using the karabiner.
➢ Ensure the karabiner is secure and then the operator can use the machine and work
at height in a safe manner.
➢ If the operator has to step out of the basket while at height, he must first connect to
another lanyard before releasing the main lanyard.
➢ Before removing the safety harness the operator must return to ground level and step
out of the basket.
If you use a snatch block or fall arrester in a MEWPS and fall out you could turn over the
entire platform. You should only use the lanyard provided.
