After an eight minute break for the race committee it was time for the Laurent Giles
designed Wanita to begin her chase of Jedda. Wanita meant business with kite hoisting
action as she crossed the starting line. Sure enough it filled before a full hoist. No problem
said her skipper, Richard Gates to the race committee, as he put his weight on the kite
halyard to overcome the kite snagged in the bag problem.

As Wanita sails past the race committee her kite halyard is cleated down while the head halyard is released for an on the deck drop.
Next across the start line were the 1967 Admirals cup champion Mercedes III and the 30
square metre Pastime II followed by Phillip Rhodes designed Fair Winds with the scratch
boats Kingurra and Acrospire III off 40 minutes after Jedda and Seabird were released.
