Classic sights of the day. From the Race committee.
Plenty is the word here. From the race committee boat, the most notable sight was watching
Acrospire III, with all headsails drawing, and her tops’l set for max negative pressure, carve
her way through the race four fleet. From last to leave to being first home it was surely her
day.
However while these just right conditions were going Acrospire III’s way it couldn’t and
didn’t last . Come the last 100 metres it all went pear shape for both Acrospire III and
Pastime II. For a couple of minutes both boats hit a wind hole that stopped them dead. With
Avian and Wanita steaming up under kites on a Port Phillip wind line it was tense to see if
the leaders could save their position. For Acrospire III, after doing a wind based 360
degree she managed to start moving and cross he finish 2 minutes and 9 seconds ahead of
Avian. In turn Avian headed Wanita by 26 seconds who in turn headed Pastime II’s by 9
seconds. Scott McDonald, skipper of Pastime II, reported Wanita was too strong for them in
the last 50 metres For Pastime II, the consulation prize was after Acrospire III, she had
second best elapsed time for the race.
The site of Acrospire III and
Pastime II stalled while the fleet
were coming home fast had the
committee in full suspense mode

scene on the committee
Kerferd Road Pier boat was drama filled as
Scott McDonald Wanita came through the
finish line at speed after
keeping high off the to
stay on the wind line.
