TITLE OF THE PRACTICE: TERRACE GARDENING AND BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION

            Objective of the Practice:

            a) To understand landscaping techniques
            b) To conserve medicinal plants

            c) To isolate plant secondary metabolites

            The Actual Practice:

Terrace gardening was initiated as an activity under Jain University Biological Association
(JUBA). Interested undergraduate students were asked to get pots, soil and fertilizers from

Lalbagh botanical garden. The students were given an understanding of various medicinal

plants like aloe Vera, Tinospora cord folia, cacti and several flowering plants. Plants were
potted and watered regularly, the pots were arranged to understand landscaping techniques,

pollinators were studied. Students were also introduced to concepts of plant taxonomy.

            Outcome:

            a) Medicinal plants were potted and habit studies were conducted.
            b) It facilitated students to conduct research on plant secondary metabolite extraction and

                fertilizer studies.

            c) It also facilitated plant pathology studies
