Outcomes:
• Significant increase in learning capacity and academic performance was observed
• Improvement in Grades, thinking and analytical skills.
• The result of peer tutoring showed an increase in scores in subsequent tests after peer
learning.
• The slow learners also developed good metacognitive skills and learnt to communicate
with the peer tutors, their teachers and other students. They showed a marked
improvement in self-esteem
Title of the Practice: Service Learning
Objective of the Practice:
• To gain a deeper understanding of the course/curricular content, a broader appreciation
of the discipline and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility.
• Allows students to synthesize course material in more meaningful ways.
• Popularize Science and technology among masses and create an awareness regarding its
impact on socio-economic and sustainable development of the country.
Actual Practice:
Students visit nearby government schools and demonstrate simple science experiments
to higher secondary students. They teach simple concepts in Physics, Mathematics and
Chemistry by explaining the concepts and showing working models. Thus the students
share the acquired knowledge, experience and skills with the high school children and
thus help in redefining the education system and also help in motivating students to take
up basic sciences.
Outcome:
Students build relationships, solve problems, value a sense of community and gain self-
awareness. Service-learning is beyond memorable so it can influence one’s career path and
enhance civic responsibility. This extends learning beyond the academic term and ays the
foundation for continual personal growth throughout the student’s academic experience
and beyond.
