If a show's traffic is slow, other exhibitors start to complain, and
we all know that misery loves company. Negativity can spread like
the flu. Stay positive and maintain high energy, even in those situa
tions. Anything can change in a flash, and the buyer from that large
chain store may be just around the corner. You don't want him to
hear you whining to your neighbor. A few years ago, as I was liter
ally packing up my boxes at the close of a dud of a show, a man in a
suit walked into the booth, and started asking me questions about
my products. By this time, I was a tad depressed, tired, and not in
the mood to chit-chat. It turned out this last-minute visitor owned
one of the largest mail-order catalogs in the nail care industry. He
placed an order and became a client for several years.
