Public Information Act Seminar Attorney John West with Director Erwin Ballarta

On September 11, we hosted the Third Annual Texas Counter-Terrorism Conference at the Capitol. Our
goal is to bring Texas Law Enforcement “lessons learned” and current information on Terrorism related
cases. This conference was designed to create relationships between all types of Law Enforcement agen-
cies, and many other 1st responders. It is through education, partnership and communication that we
are able to better serve our community.

Austin area was a victim of a serial bomber this year. Through the team effort of the FBI, Local Police
agencies, Texas DPS, Texas Attorney General and other agencies, the Austin Serial Bomber was captured.

September 11 is a day to remember when many of our citizens were killed due to a terrorist attack. It is a
day to learn that we need to work together and focus on inter-operability. It is a day to focus on working
together to prevent another attack.
