SVMIC Collaborating with Advanced Practice Providers
Remote Practice Site
State specific rules for oversight of APPs at a remote practice location
are as follows:
Alabama
If the CRNP is at a remote site without the physician’s presence, the
written protocol must clearly specify the circumstances and provide
written verification of the availability of an approved physician. The
supervising physician must be present with the CRNP, not less than 10%
of the CRNP’s scheduled hours, if the CRNP has less than two (2) years
(4,000 hours) of collaborative practice experience since initial
certification or in the collaborating physician’s practice specialty. For a
CRNP who has more than two (2) years (4,000 hours) of collaborative
practice experience, he or she and the supervising physician must meet
no less than quarterly and must visit each remote practice site not less
than twice annually. A pre-approved physician may be present in lieu of
the collaborating physician.
Arkansas
The supervising physician must be available for immediate telephone
contact.
Georgia
The delegating physician must document and maintain a record of
onsite observation and a review of medical records on a quarterly basis
to monitor the quality of care being provided to the patients.
Kentucky
Physician assistants may practice in separate locations as long as the
supervising physician is continuously available via telecommunication
