7 Rave Coffee is a subscription service that teaches you about coffee too. Each deliv-
ery, along with new coffee, is accompanied by information covering subjects such as
growing, roasting, brewing and tasting coffee. Their coffee range is extensive from blends,
single estate, decaffeinated and organic beans and they source from sustainable produc-
ers worldwide. Subscriptions include pods and raw green coffee for those interested in
roasting at home. A subscription from Rave Coffee is £15.90 for two 250 g bags/month
(includes free UK delivery).
8 The Bean Shop in Perth, Scotland was opened in 2003 by John and Lorna Bruce,
who started roasting coffee in the basement of their George Street shop. From 2004 they
also started supplying online to coffee enthusiasts throughout the UK via their subscrip-
tion service. The coffee beans, sourced from around the world, are roasted by hand in
small batches at their Perth base. The Bean Shop works closely with skilled import part-
ners in order to manage consistent quality through tasting and constant evaluation of the
coffees they choose. A six
month subscription from the Bean Shop of one 250g bag of their “coffee of the month” is
£55.00, (£36 per kg).
9 Trade Coffee Co. More than 400 types of coffee from roasting companies around
the country. When you sign up for a Trade subscription, you’ll take a quiz that matches
you with varieties to suit your personal tastes, and you’ll choose from two subscription
tiers — The Hookup, which sends you a wide variety of coffee, or The Classic, which sticks
to more traditional flavors. Each bag of coffee usually costs between $15 and $22, and
subscription holders get access to exclusive savings and free shipping.
10 Bean Box. You can choose to receive light, medium, dark, decaf or espresso roasts,
and there are three-, six- or 12-month subscriptions available. They choose the coffee
“expertly curated selection”. Tasting boxes each contain four 1.8-ounce bags of artisan
coffee from Seattle’s most popular small-batch roasters, giving you nearly ½ pound of
coffee to enjoy. Plus, you’ll also get tasting notes, roaster profiles, brewing tips and an
artisan treat with each delivery. $24 pm per 12 0z coffee of the month or $16.50 pm for the
tasting box.
