ABU LOOFAH, male, light beige, short-haired. Bred by the Ajman Bedouins.
LOOFAH, female, cream-coloured, short-haired. By ABU LOOFAH out of SHA'lLA. In the same
litter 2 short-haired and 2 well feathered dogs.
TURFAH, bitch, reddish brown, with heavily feathered tail and moderately feathered coat. By
LABA'AN II out of LOOFAH.
I forgot to mention that LABA'AN was bred by the Al Thani in Qatar. THABYA was owned by
HRH Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, but was bred by the Mutair.
The well feathered, black/red Schieferegger male LASEEM is by LABA'AN out of the black/
red, smooth JET sister WATYA. The already mentioned, light beige, smooth bitch GHARIBA
became the foundation dam of the Schieferegger breeding programme. I had her mated to
THABYAN, a black/beige, short-haired LABA'AN son. The resulting litter included both the
smooth ALIA as well as the well feathered ASWAN.
Among other things, it can be seen from these remarks that that the long hair is recessive
under a smooth phenotype even through generations. This is probably not exciting news, but
is common knowledge among breeders and geneticists. Nevertheless the example may be of
interest.
The young female mentioned at the beginning is TURFAH. She is now in a good place.
I still have her mother LOOFAH and grandmother SHA'ILA, as well as the male LABA'AN II. I
had actually intended to take these dogs back to Saudi Arabia, where I would use them for
hunting and also could continue to breed them.
Now I have been informed at very short notice that on the premises of my new employer that
keeping dogs is now forbidden. This is probably the "Islamic wave", and in the hands of city
Arabs who have no idea of the privileged position of Salukis among the Bedouins.
Presumably the soup is not eaten as hot, as it was cooked. Nevertheless, I now see myself
forced to find a transitional solution, as I am not thinking of giving up my breeding because of
such nonsense.
For the Schiefereggers, catering for my three additional dogs , especially as my LABA'AN will
be living there alongside two other fully matured males, in the long run, is an
unreasonable burden.
