Jet, left, and Sha'ilah with John Burchard Junior, 1970-1980
La'aban was born to the Bani Khaldi Bedouin tribe in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
Barghash, a well-known hunter among the Bani Khaldi Bedouin in the Eastern Province,
was in his late 70s or early 80s in 1975 when he received La'aban in Bahrain from the Bani
Khaldi tribe. La'aban was born in the mid 1960s. He was 28 inches (=71.12cm) high, black &
tan with white markings and had typical Saudi feathering.
Many Saudi Arabian Salukis have light feathering on the ears and long, fine, sparse
feathering on the tail. A more detailed description can be found in Gail Goodman's book.
He was a friendly, curious gentleman, much loved by children (E. Dawsari).
Barghash was La'aban's owner. Elizabeth and Sheikh Dr. Fahd bin Hzam al-Dawsari kept
La'aban with them due to veterinary needs, but he rarely stayed with them for more than
a few weeks. The Dawsaris were therefore not La'aban's owners.
La'aban was mated several times on the Saudi peninsula, one daughter for example was
Sun-X Bint La'aban, mother of Pearl Bint Dawsari and Brandi Bint Dawsari, all Salukis.
