Perhaps there was no basis for this because the current FCI Standard No. 188c at that
time did not refer to areas of origin of the Sloughis. However, it was already clear that
Laba'an Al Khalij II was a Saluki, he was just not included in the Saluki stud book because
he was a smooth Saluki. Subsequently, Laba'an II Al Khalij and his offspring were banned
from breeding in Switzerland, but the offspring were not consistently controlled.
However, Xavier Przezdziecki and Agnès Rey had already ignored the different origins of
Jenna and the North African Sloughis in France with Jenna from Syria and were able to
get away with it, possibly because Xavier Przezdziecki was not to be attacked as
commander of the French army. But Xavier Przezdziecki was also respected because of
his authority as a long-standing Sloughi breeder and expert on dogs in the Middle East
and North Africa.
Smooth Saluki in the book by William Robinson Brown, "The Horse of the Desert" 1919, near
Damascus, with Ruwala Bedouins.
Jenna from Syria
Born on 13 June 1972, owned by Mr. Cayssials (secretary of the "Amis du Sloughi" club in
1977), registration in the French studbook (LOF, Livre des Origines Françaises), LOF
registration numbers and dates of birth of J'Thasma and Joker. Article by Mme Rey stating
that Malik's sire, Jenna, was bred by the Bedouins of the Orient (Middle East). Article by X.
Przezdziecki in the Bulletin of Les Amis du Sloughi 1977, in which the Oreitna tribe (from
Syria) is named as Jenna's breeder.
But what is to be done now, after several generations of line-bred "Sloughis", whose
ancestors were obviously not bred on the basis of the current Sloughi standard?
