Laba'an II Al Khalij, 1st part: his life as a
Saluki on the Arabian Peninsula.
His litter sister Thabya II Al Khalij is
feathered and, as Dr. John Burchard
explains, this mixed feathering also
reappears after generations.
Laba'an II Al Khalij was bred as a Saluki to
the feathered Saluki bitch Loofah from the
Arabian Peninsula and they had a daughter
Turfah. Loofah's dam is Sha'ila from the

When Laba'an II Al Khalij was declared a
Sloughi, the applicable Sloughi standard
with the indication of origin was
disregarded .
Dr. John Burchard explains the occurrence
and use of Salukis on the Arabian Peninsula
to the SKG, the Swiss Kennel Club.
The Swiss Saluki Club rejects the inclusion
in the register. The categorisation of the
phenotype (short-haired) as Sloughi
contradicts the current regulation in the
Saluki standard. This refers to the
characteristics of the Salukis when the
"Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club" was
founded at Crufts in 1923: all types are

Inge Engelhardt writes to the board of the VDH that in the French Sloughi Club offspring
of the banned male Laba'an II Al Khalij are appearing in droves and it is readily admitted
that up to 50% of the offspring have to be killed because they are feathered. Page 20.
