Early litters relied on Stud dogs in the UK and
were selected for their overall balance and
soundness with typical movement being a
priority and we enjoyed success by producing
Reserve Challenge Certificate (RCC) winners
and Junior Warrant awards with many of our
pups excelling in working disciplines.
Sheridel Ione of Darkpeak, mated to the
import Ch Topsy’s Offenbach gave us our first
Champion ‘Socrates’,
Ch Darkpeak Harrison Stickle JW. in 2001.
A Granddaughter from ‘Rani’ was the brown
bitch Darkpeak Fionuala of Lir JW, herself a
K9 NEWS DIGITAL / DECEMBER 2020
she was mated to the import CH Cayuga
George Ferrari and produced CC winner ‘Harpo’
Darkpeak Rumours and CH Darkpeak Mystified
who was top winning Newfoundland in 2003
notching up a total of 15 CC’s. Continuing our
interest in the working aspects of the breed,
‘Ripley’ became the first and remains the only
Show Champion in the UK to achieve the
highest level in a working test with her Draught
test success at Level 4 in 2006.
A further litter from Fionuala to Ch New-Furr-
Lands Russell Newbery Nutbrook produced CC
and RCC winners including Darkpeak Faery
‘Nuff’ who can be found in the pedigrees of
many winning dogs today, both in the UK and
abroad.
Our import Paola vom Trieberg from the late
Sibylle Welzbacher in Germany mated to the
American import Threeponds Mountain Music
at Millthorpe produced sister and brother Ch.
Darkpeak A Perfect Storm and Ch. Darkpeak
Raging Storm from Millthorpe. ‘Saffi’ and
‘Blucha’ each gained their Junior Warrants
and went on to become the first White & Black
siblings to achieve their UK Champion titles
since the 1970s.
A second litter from Paola to Ch Hanningfield
Sequoia produced ‘Anya’ Ch. Darkpeak Fallen
Angel who became top winning bitch in the
UK in 2014 and won a total of 13 Challenge
Certificates.
In recent years, mainly due to work
commitments our own breeding plans have
been put on the back burner and we have
continued our interest by importing dogs from
abroad, now both retired we will consider a
further litter in the future.
Careful research into pedigrees coupled with
the opportunity to both spectate and Judge
abroad has given the knowledge and experience
to import quality dogs to campaign: Ch Cape
