Description of exemplary programs reported by chapters of the Region:
The Health and Hypertension Committees in the Eastern Region have been busy during the
2019-2020 Sorority Year.
Summary of the many activities from Chapters of the Eastern Region during their year of
"Health, Wellness and Service".
Chapters: Alpha, Beta, Zeta, Eta, Theta, Pi, Rho, Alpha Zeta, Alpha Chi, Beta Epsilon, Beta
Lambda, Beta Omicron, Delta Nu, Delta Phi and Delta Pi.
Theme: Health, Wellness and Service
Chapters participated in activities as Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Walks for Alzheimer's
and Autism in their communities. Sorors attending and facilitated workshops on topics of Diabetes,
Hypertension, Cancer(Breast, Colon and Skin), Alzheimers and Sickle cell. Chapters had presenters
from local hospitals: Hackensack, NY Presbyterian and Newark Beth Israel. Presenters also from
the Sister Network of Essex County, YMCA/YWCA and Weight Watchers giving informational
packets educating Sorors and participants of the benefits of
Health and Wellness.
Wear Red for Heart Health was a success throughout the region, many chapters wore their red,
donating to local American Heart Association in support of their cause and raising awareness of
Heart Disease and it's effects on women.
Sorors were educated on the benefits and importance of Diet and exercise. Participation in
Zumba and Yoga classes, attending workshop on cooking healthy foods and snacks and learning
about the benefits of supplements (Ginko biloba, CoQ-10 and melatonin). Menopause and its effects
on the body and the changes to expect during this period of a womans life.
Sorors of the Eastern Region were well informed on Health and Wellness as evidenced by
participation in the many activities showing how important a healthy lifestyle and making Health,
Wellness and Service a priority.
