THE NATIONAL SORORITY OF PHI DELTA KAPPA, INC. • 74TH ANNUAL EASTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
The Regional Book Club was held on a Friday evening at the 2019 Eastern Regional Conference.
The hosting chapter, Alpha Zeta, recommended a soror from the area to use as our author of
choice. The author was Stacy Hawkins Adams. The book was Watercolored Pearls. Soror Stacy is
an award-winning author, journalist and speaker. Right away her named seemed familiar as one of
the authors you see in the lineup of new books I always checked out. The crowd of sorors gathered at
10:00 in the morning to meet this promising young writer. I had previously asked sorors to come
wearing their water colored pearls and they did not disappoint. Stacy answered questions from the
sorors as to why she chose certain characters and why she made her characters so spiritual.
Stacy explained using three women who were at different places in their lives and had to look to God
and each other for help on their journey. Sorors understood that we are supportive of each other
during rough and easy times and that we go to God to seek that support for ourselves and each
other. I did hear one person softly say she had to incorporate God in all the problem solving. My
thought was that there was no better source than to go to him first. After all the questions were
asked sorors took pictures with the author. Those who wore water colored pearls were put in an
additional picture. Stacy was asked about additional book titles and she named all the books she had
written. As soon as I got home from the conference I went out and found another one of her books at
Walmart. I was setting up a book event for some of the avid readers at my church but was
interrupted by Covid-19. To those who can get other books by her-support our soror!
              Suggestions, recommendations and concerns:

Chapters need to be able to report what their chapter did to facilitate the reading of the selected
              book.
              Respectfully,

              Leola Williams
