On August 14,2019 Soror Dianne Gary-Jones who is now retired, responded to the call of action
from a local television to come out and assist with the Ultimate Backpack Drive for RVA
students. The goal was to pack 14,000 backpacks by 6:00 p. m. that day by filling each backpack
with 20 school supplies.
Alpha Chi Chapter
In recognition of world Homeless Day, Soror Marge McDaniel and Anthropos Lee McDaniel
participated in a Telethon hosted by the H.O.P.E Foundation to raise funds to assist with caring
for the Homeless. The telethon was live-streamed on face book by former news anchor Regina
Mobley. Soror McDaniel and her husband are foundation volunteers. The Foundation is the only
summer homeless shelter in the Hampton Roads area, operating May through November. Soror
McDaniel was able to present a check from Alpha Chi Chapter in the amount of $200 to help
with this very worthy cause. Also, Sorors welcomed students back to school on the first day of
school. During Jumpstart's 14th annual Read for the Record Day, the Basileus and Sorors read
"Thank You Omu!" at different schools in Portsmouth
