                                      REGIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON REPORT
                                                            Sororal Year 2019

              Y. E. S. Program Committee: Protocol Regional Chair: Soror Juanita J. High

Briefly describe and highlight exemplary programs reported by chapters of the region.

              Iota Chapter
Iota Chapter Basileus, Dr. Sherri Parmenter, has added “Protocol Minutes” as a part of the
monthly agenda. The Protocol Chairman presents a five-minute session at each meeting on
Chapter Protocol, addressing such topics as Definition of Protocol, Duties of Officers,
Accountability of the Basileus, Members’ Rights and Responsibilities, Do’s and Don’ts of
Meeting Decorum, Knowledge of the Documents of Governance, Functions of Committee Duties,
THE NATIONAL SORORITY OF PHI DELTA KAPPA, INC. • 74TH ANNUAL EASTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
Correspondence, Financial Procedures and Delegation of Tasks. This series is continuous as there
are many facets of Protocol to be considered.

              Alpha Chi Chapter
During monthly meetings of Alpha Chi Chapter, sections of Manual of Policies and Procedures
(MPP), Ritual, and Constitution and By-Laws are discussed. The Protocol section of the MPP was
discussed on the local, regional, and national levels. In September each Soror was asked to
review the Protocol section in the updated MPP. The leadership chairs highlighted how protocol
should be used and practiced on all levels. To increase the knowledge of the chapter, members
were given brain teasers to test their knowledge of correct protocol.

              Concern:
The lack of response from Eastern Region Chapters regarding their Protocol Activities is a
concern. It is important that sorors know proper protocol and that chapters conduct Protocol
training sessions. Many issues within chapters would be resolved if proper protocol is followed.
All levels of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. should adhere to proper protocol. We
wish to thank those chapters who are making Protocol an integral part of their operation.

              Recommendation:
It is recommended that every chapter in the Eastern Region conduct Protocol Workshops or
sessions at least quarterly during the sororal year.

              Respectfully,
              Juanite High
              Juanita High
