Committee Eastern Region Retreat 2019

Dear Soror Patsy Squire,
Thank you for entrusting me with the wonderful task of being your Eastern Regional Retreat
Chairperson. Over the past weeks, I have searched destinations throughout the Delaware Valley and
New York to find locations that would be perfect for our Sorors to experience all of the much
deserved comforts of a relaxing and unforgettable retreat during the weekend of October 9th – 11th,
2020. In this preliminary report, you will find information about three destinations, all of which are
located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The destinations are listed as followed:
Mount Airy Casino – Resort- Spa, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, and Crystal Springs Resort
(Rod N Reel is being removed).
Mount Airy Resort Casino is considered one of the Pocono’s premier meeting destinations. It is
a Four Diamond rated service resort with over 1,000 acres of resort amenities, luxury guest rooms
and executive suites (some with private entrances to luxurious indoor pool), 6 restaurants,
complimentary valet parking, Event Center, golf course, casino games, full service spa, and
entertainment. It is conveniently located within minutes of hundreds of Pocono Mountain
attractions which include: skiing, swimming, whitewater rafting, hiking, biking shopping and more.
Retreat-goers of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Incorporated’s Eastern region are
quite familiar with what Kalahari Resorts & Conventions has to offer. What they may not know, is
that in 2019, Kalahari expanded its meeting and event experiences which includes a new ballroom
and 18 additional meeting rooms with the latest in modern-day technology. Kalahari also boasts
having the largest indoor waterpark which is included, for resort guests. They also provide on sight
activities & family entertainment including: mini golf, mini-bowling, ropes course and zip line.
Some of the nearby activities include: horseback riding, biking, archery, etc. Kalahari provides two
four site restaurants / lounges and complimentary self-parking.
Crystal Spring Resort of Hamburg, New Jersey and Rod N Reel Resort of Chesapeake Beach,
Maryland were also contacted. Rod N Reel Resort came highly recommended by other Sorors. I
waited until this week for a response after contacting them a few times. Their regrets are listed
below.
Crystal Springs Resort of northern New Jersey is mountainside hotel, surrounded by four-season
recreation and sits adjacent to Minerals Golf Course. Minerals Hotel. It offers 175 Aspen-style
décor guestrooms that feature breathtaking mountain, golf course or pool views. Many rooms have
cozy stone fireplaces, comfortable seating, an outdoor patio and a dining nook with wet bar. All
accommodations include access to their fitness & wellness center, Minerals Sports Club.
Regardless of which resort is selected for this year’s retreat, it promises to be one that will
forever leave a footprint of fond memories for every Soror who attends. Wonderful things are being
