exemplary reports only and list the contributing chapters at the end of the report.
Pi Chapter Theme: African- American History Bowl
The African American Cultural Collaboration of Mercer County and NSPDK. Inc Pi Chapter joined
forces to sponsor two African American History Bowls in 2019. Student teams from NAACP Act
So Program and the Xinos and Kudos participated in both contests and the Seed Male Mentoring
Program. Community members facilitated all aspects of the program, which was open to the public
and included a special Libation ceremony conducted by Sa Mut A. Scott, an African Centered
Spiritualist, a tribute to the elders, and the Negro National Anthem was sung. the winning teams
were awarded monetary gifts for there organizations. A sensational educational event with
community collaboration. Refreshments were served prior to the contest.
Xi Chapter Theme: Knowing the Past, Preparing for the Future
Mistress of Ceremony Soror Betty McClairen
The program began with the singing of the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice And Sing by
James Weldon Johnson. Soror Felecia Laury did a portrayal Marian Anderson. Soror Regina
Rowland- Perry educated the audience with some important Black History Facts. Our Chapter
Xinos and Kudos participated in the musical presentation along with the Voices of Xi (Basileus
Payne, Sorors Williams, Laury, and Howie.) The guest speaker was Pastor Curtis D. Morris from
Bethany Baptist Church, who gave a dynamic speech pertaining to Black History. The program
ended with the Steppers from Chester High School and Black History Trivia. Gift cards were given
out for prizes.
Beta Lambda Chapter Theme: Black History Month
Sorors provided a full ethnic meal for the students, parents and staff at Ibraham Elementary School
Following Their Black History Program. The meal consisted of fried chicken, macaroni &cheese,
green beans, rolls, drinks. and a variety of desserts.
Beta Omicron Chapter Theme: There's a Message in Our Music: Telling Our Story
Our Annual African American Program was held at the Cambria Heights Library on Saturday
February 9. 2019 from 2pm to 4pm. The program encompassed a timeline of Black Music which
utilized songs from varied genres, as well as dance, artwork, and the spoken word that told our story.
The program began with a video displaying the history of African Music followed by dance, poetry,
speech, and /or songs representing each era. The music / timelines represented Pre-enslavement-
Drums of Passion, Enslavement- Steal Away, Reconstuction- Oh Freedom, Pride and Protest- Ain't
Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Round, Civil Rights- Whats Going On, Black Power- Say It Loud I'm
Black and I'm Proud, and Contemporary/ Modern times - Greatest Love of All. The finale consisted
with audience participation in singing the song " A Message in Our Music. the program was
intergeneratinal with participants from sorors, school choir, art display, dancers, Xinos and Kudos.
Admission was free and open to the public. Refreshments was served
