Helpful keys:
ESC: Any menu or dialog box can be closed without making any changes by pressing the ESC key in the upper
left corner of the keyboard.
Cancel: Any dialog box can be closed without making any changes by clicking the Cancel button on the dialog
box
X: Any dialog box can be closed without making any changes by clicking the X in the upper right corner of the
window
OK: Any dialog box can be closed and carry out the changes set in the dialog box by clicking OK button. Usually
pressing the Enter key also carries out the commands.
G. Shortcut Menu/Right Click
The Shortcut menu is accessed by clicking the right mouse button on a specific item. It will display a
list of actions that you can take at this point. Each item will have a different menu. To use shortcut for
any item, right click on the item and a pop-up menu appears with the choices available for that item.
USING THE SHORTCUT MENU
1. Minimize or close any open windows so you can see the Desktop. Shortcut Menu
2. Point to an empty area on the Desktop, right-click your mouse, to display
a similar menu. Note: Don’t point to any icons or the taskbar on the
bottom of the screen.
3. Select Personalize from the menu choice. Since you pointed to a blank
area of the screen, you will receive information about the display screen.
Your options may differ on different computers.
4. On Personalize window, click Screen Saver. The Screen Saver is a
picture that starts on the desktop after your computer is left idle for a
specified number of minutes. Your system will have several options from which to choose. (Some of
these options may be disconnected on college or business networks.)
5. Try choosing a different screen saver by following the information on the screen. Try changing the Wait
time to 15 minutes. The Screen Saver will kick in 15 minutes after the last activity on the computer.
Click Apply button. OK. Choose either OK or Apply. Close the Personalize window.
