To see all open applications – point to upper right corner, drag down to use Switch Bar
To pin program to Task Bar –right click on the icon, choose Pin Program to Task Bar; icon can be on
Start Screen, Desktop, or Task Bar.
To unpin program from Task Bar – right click on the icon, choose Unpin Program from Task Bar.
To view menu of usable commands, right click the object.
To select text, 1) double click on a word or 2) drag the mouse over the words while holding the left
button down, 3) move mouse to left margin and left click when it points right and whole line is selected,
4) or triple click to select a whole paragraph.
To close Desktop application programs: 1) Click X in upper right corner of window or 2) press
Alt+F4 or 3) Right click the button on the Task Bar and click Close Window, or 4) Right click the
thumbnail in the Switch List; click Close.
USING DESKTOP:
1. Open the Desktop screen by using Windows key or clicking on Desktop tile.
a) If these programs (File Explorer, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word) are not already pinned to the
Task Bar, you will need to Search for and open them:
b) Use Charms Bar (Windows+C), Search. Type in each program. Enter. (Program opens.)
2. Right click on each icon on the taskbar, choose Pin program to Task Bar. If they are already pinned,
just close the shortcut menu.
3. With all 3 programs opened and pinned to Task Bar, switch to the File Explorer window by clicking on
its icon on the Task Bar. It should be in front.
4. Maximize the window - click on the middle icon in the upper right
corner of the window, to the left of the X. The tip should read
Maximize. The window should then fill the screen.
5. Click on the Internet Explorer icon. It should now be in front.
Maximize the window by clicking the Maximize button.
6. Click on the Microsoft Word icon. Maximize the window
7. Open File Explorer again. Click on the Restore Down icon next to the X to reduce the window size.
Place your mouse on the lower right or left border of the window until you see a double pointed arrow.
With the left mouse button down while the double pointed arrow appears, drag the borders so the
window fills about half of the screen.
8. Put your mouse on the title bar and drag the window to the left side of the screen.
9. Open the Word program, click on Blank Document if necessary, type your name and address on separate
lines.
10. Double click on your first name to select it. The name should be highlighted. Deselect by clicking
elsewhere.
11. Drag the mouse over your whole name. Right click on the highlighted name to see a shortcut menu of
possible commands you can use on your name. Choose Font and select a different font. OK.
12. Select your address by moving the mouse to left margin and left click when it points right and whole line
is selected.
13. Give the Bold command by holding down the CTRL key while pressing the B (Ctrl+B).Triple click on
your town line. Give the Underline command (Ctrl U). Leave Word open.
