ST. LANDRY PARISH
Equal parts Cajun and Creole, St. Landry Parish, is a
rural-heritage destination located in South Central,
Louisiana. Symbols of the region’s culture and faith are
present everywhere —museums, art galleries, and even
the local brewery!
Tour the site of a Vatican recognized miracle located at
the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Within the school is
a special shrine, the location of the apparition and the
miracle of St. John Berchmans. There, the miraculous
healing of the young novice, Mary Wilson, took place
and was, then Blessed Berchmans, third miracle leading
to his canonization.
Continue your faith tour at the Louisiana Orphan Train
Museum, one of only two locations in the U.S. dedicated
to the story of the orphan train riders. The museum’s
volunteers, mostly orphan train descendants, will
describe what life was like for riders upon their arrival
in Louisiana and the New York Foundling Hospital’s
Mission to place them with Catholic families.
Shop at NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, a volunteer-
run art gallery and arts incubator. Meet French-
speaking locals and even find works of art with a
spiritual influence. Just a mile down the road, “lift your
spirits” on the banks of the bayou at Bayou Teche
Brewing. Tours are offered in English or French, and
craft beer flows every day in the taproom.
