Chicago Dedicates the Dr.

Barbara Henley Ballroom

The dedication of the Dr. Barbara Henley Ballroom
in Student Center East of the University of Illinois
at Chicago (UIC) in April, 2023 was a major event

attended by students, faculty, staff, community
members, and other guests. With a maximum room
capacity of 250, the beautifully appointed ballroom

will serve as a venue for campus and community
gatherings and celebrations for years to come. The
ballroom is named in honor of Carrousel Dr. Barbara
Henley, an alumna of UIC, who served as UIC’s third
vice chancellor for student affairs for twenty years.

Dr. Henley retired in 2016 after a distinguished
career filled with many accomplishments designed,

primarily, to enhance student life. While serving,
she was an unwavering advocate for increased
student opportunities and student rights. Her many
achievements included: the establishment of a
Commuter Student Center, a Veterans Student Center,

and a successful fund raising operation for student
leadership scholarships; program planning for new
residence halls, a new Recreation and Fitness Center,

a new 3,000-seat convocation center, and renovation
This ballroom will hold meetings, conferences, dinners, projects totaling $247 million. Dr. Henley and her
luncheons, dances, game nights, debates and more are team contributed significantly to the physical and
important aspects of college and community life.
