In the Book Continued
“Well there is so much to say when it comes to Erik and what he has meant to this Unit. Erik has spent almost two
decades in this unit and has made the most of every moment here. He has been a one of a kind case maker, a mentor, a
leader, and a friend to each and and every one of us. His dedication to this unit and to each of us individually has been
second to none.” From all of us in the Gang Unit, Congratulations DLT Telford, thanks for everything, and best of luck as a
CINRET commander.
After 38 years in law enforcement, Sergeant Michael “Mugsy” McCarthy in his own words ” called it a career” this
past April. Sgt McCarthy started in the early 80’s with Newton PD, and eventually to the Metropolitan Police and finally
the Massachusetts State Police where he spent the majority of the last three decades with the Gang Unit, from Trooper to
Sergeant, from Brockton to Boston, Sgt McCarthy worked tirelessly alongside numerous state, local, and federal partners
to make the Commonwealth a safer place. His leadership, guidance, determination, and friendship have been second to
none to many.
In his own words: “It’s been an honor working with you guys and all the previous Gang Unit members that paved
the way. Continue to make the Gang Unit shine. I will miss all you guys, stay safe”. Congratulations Sgt, enjoy that well
deserved retirement.
Thank you SPAM members, stay safe out there.
