The joys of summer vacation, the sun and nice weather, glimpsed between the record setting rain New Englanders
have contended with this year, also have tails of caution and tragedy. The State Police Underwater Recover Team
has responded to numerous calls for service this summer.
On June 25th the Underwater Recovery Team, along with other agencies, recovered the body of 19-year-old Jason
Peri Bonilla, of Roxbury. Bonilla had been swimming in Turtle Pond in Hyde Park when friends reported him
missing. Troopers assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the drowning, but no
foul play is suspected.
A joint effort by MSP, Boston Fire and BPD resulted in the
recovery of the body of a missing swimmer from Turtle Pond in
Hyde Park. The victim, who was determined to be deceased on
scene, was a 19-year-old Boston resident. No other information
is beinf released at this time.

On July 1st, two swimmers in the water off of Pleasure Bay Beach were in need of rescue. The MSP Marine Unit,
Air Wing and Underwater Recovery Team were part of a multi-agency group that responded to the area, rescuing
one swimmer and beginning a search for the missing swimmer. Sadly, the body of a 19-year-old male, who had
been swimming with his friend when he failed to surface, was recovered later that day.
The State Police Association of Massachusetts reminds you to always swim with a buddy and never go too far from
shore. A minor emergency such as a cramp or medical issue can become a life or death factor in deep water.
