and waving your legs in the air in a pathetic manner will not get you off the
hook either” said the Dogmother.
After they’d all been out and done what they needed to (and several things
they didn’t need to - like barking at possums and trying to sniff out rabbit
burrows in the front garden in the dark) they were all tucked into bed and the
Dogparents retired to bed too.
The next morning dawned bright and sunny and the dogs couldn’t wait to get
the day started. They could hear the birds singing their dawn chorus and
wanted to go out and say hello.
When the Dogfather went down
the back to do the chores and
feed the kangaroos, Oscar the
Emu, the geese, ducks, chickens,
and guinea fowl - most of the
dogs trooped along, too.
Some though, including Sophie,
Chloe and Maisie were a little
lazy about getting up and stayed
in bed snoring very loudly! The
Dogmother too, was very lazy
about getting out of bed. Not
that she was sleeping but this
was her favourite time of the
day, spending time with the dogs, listening to the birdsong and gentle snoring
from the puppies who were snuggled up with her.
The morning routine included dispensing medications to some dogs in a piece of
sausage or liver wurst, but no-one missed out and everyone excitedly milled
around waiting for their piece of sausage and taking their turn.
