While all of this had been going on, the Dog-Mother had been

yelling at the Gang to come out of the water – remonstrations

that were very clearly falling on completely deaf doggy ears.

It’s a well-documented fact that whenever something exciting is

going on, dogs become quite deaf and cannot hear commands
from their Dog-parents!

The Dog-Mother yelled out to the Dog-Father to come and help

her and they both went down the bank to the creek edge to try

and get the Gang out of the water. Each time the dogs swam

past, the Dog-Parents tried to grab them, but they were always

just out of reach. Rosie and Maisie were clearly getting tired
from doing battle with the black swamp monster – and were

weighed down with slimy, gooey, thick black mud and tangled up

with black swamp monster tentacles – but still they wouldn’t stop

trying to catch the ducks.

The Dog-Mother went back to the house and got some dog leads

and stopped at the shed on the way back and grabbed a big net.
