important institution to pass on the values of traditional (cultural)

Between Minangkabau and West Sumatra are not very
identical, although Minangkabau is currently geographically
concentrated in West Sumatra. West Sumatra with its
population4,000,000 people or 4.5% of the total population of
Indonesia (1990 census), administratively is one of the provinces
of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Meanwhile,
Minangkabau is a territory based on Minang culture, namely the
culture adopted by the Minangkabau tribe whose territory is wider
than the present province of West Sumatra. This Minangkabau
cultural area includes the core area of West Sumatra plus some of
the surrounding areas such as Jambi, Riau, Tapanuli, Bengkulu and
Negeri Sembilan in Malaysia.
History records that Islam entered the archipelago in the
eighth century, while the first Islamic king was recorded in
Minangkabau in 1510. Since then how many sons from this area
have become pioneers and thinkers of the nation who took part in
upholding the Republic of Indonesia. At the beginning of the 19th
century to be precise in 1802, three Hajis namely Haji Poor, Haji
Piobang and Haji Sumanik returned from the holy land of Mecca.
