establish schools for natives and it was noted that the first formal
education organized by the Dutch government in Minangkabau
was in 1910. From that moment the surau began to face
competition and there were groups who were Dutch fanatics with
propaganda to stay away from the surau.
Entering the sixth decade of the 20th century to be precise
in 1959, the old order government under the pretext of a
presidential decree and the slogan of guided democracy,
undermined the democratic nagari government system, and
weakened all democratic traditions that existed in the nagari
government, so that differences of opinion led to differences of

understanding among members of the community.
After entering its seventh decade, the New Order
government which was getting stronger with the principle of the
necessity of uniformity that did not give place to differences of
opinion, carried out administrative reforms inside, but in reality it
