Their return has inspired the purification of the Islamic faith in

           Minangkabau, namely a return to the Qur'an and Hadith, which
           were carried out the same way as at the time of the Salaf scholars

           in Mecca, so that deviations from the practice of religion in this

           view, such as superstition, mysticism and heresy, were attempted
           to be eradicated. .

                  At  the  beginning  of  the  20th  century,  again  several
           prominent Minang sons returned from the holy land of Mecca, they

           also became leaders of Islamic reformers and pioneers of education
           in  Minangkabau,  including  Sheikh  Abdullah  Ahmad,  Sheikh

           Muhammad Jamil Jambek, Founder of the Inyiak Jambek surau in

           Bukittinggi,  Haji  Abdul  Karim  Amrullah,  founder  of  Sumatra
           Thawalib education in Padang Panjang. Meanwhile on the island

           of Java, at that time two prominent figures had also just returned
           from the holy land; he is KH. Ahmad Dahlan, Founder of Islamic

           organizations in Indonesia, namely Muhammadiyah (1912), KH.
           Hasyim Asy'ari, Founder of the Islamic organization Nahdhatul

           Ulama (1926). While in Mecca, these clerics had become students

           of Sheikh Ahmad Khatib al Minangkabawi, the son of Minang who
           became a professor at the Grand Mosque.

                  During the struggle for independence of the Republic of

           Indonesia, there were names of community leaders and thinkers
           from  the  Minangkabau  area  including  Haji  Agus  Salim;
