Pete H: That did not cause me any problems sir. You know I did not think, didn’t really
think it was going to happen on active duty after the disrespect there, you’ve got
to where your support is and I….
Ivan: We had a classmate that did that too, Tim Eddings. I think he was one of our first
classmates to get a fighter.
Pete H: Yup, I met Tim in 1982. I think it was. He came to my squadron to visit the Academy
before (coming) he was enlisted at the time…
Ivan: Because if I can remember he was one of the first people I remember getting a
fighter and he got in the Guard.
Pete H: Yeah. We all – Man I tell you what? It was the time period that I did, Tim did, Don
Graham did and there's another brother somewhere else. I can't think of him right
now. Yeah, we were going to where we had some support to make it happen.
And no, I don't think there was any unit that was just jumping up and down to
have our butts come there. But you know the politics of life kicked me in the balls
leaving Vance and the politics of life brought me back in getting into San Antonio.
So that’s that.
Ivan: Do you think that if you had gotten a fighter, do you think, from active duty, do
you think you would have stayed there versus going to the airlines?
Pete H: Uh knowing me, probably or I would have gotten out and gone to a guard unit.
But you know you’ll find it – you won't find it interesting. You’ll find it just par for
the course.
Some of these brothers that got fighters, that were out there doing their thing
even teaching, even transitioning Guard units to the F-16 had trouble getting into
those units.
It’s not funny man. But it’s just real. We know what dominates this world. And we
know who's trying to keep that domination where it is.
Pete H: …Yeah because the guys that were doing the study were wowed that there was
not one person they talked to that didn't mention me.
