        Penalties and Defendants

Important purposes of the Criminal Law Enforcement in Thailand are to

put people’s living in order to protect innocent people, and to impose the

penalties for a person who violates any social rules considered as the criminal
offences. In 2020, there were 587,924 defendants in criminal cases and most of

them were suspension of punishment. However, Fines were the most common

type of sentence given by the Thai courts.

The defendants are not only Thai people but also any foreigners who
violated the law of Thailand. Considering gender of defendants, 82% of Thais

are male, and 83% of foreigners are male too.
