4. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
4.1 CHINASAT FLEET
This paragraph is here just for the records and to have a self contain document, there is no value added for a reader who
is familiar with the purpose of this assessment.
CAST does have a long heritage on satellites since the years 1970, with different configurations (Spin) up to the DFH 3
(three axes) and the DFH 4 series with different options, increasing the power / mass and up to the DFH-5 which could
be considered as an R & D program. The oldest DFH-4 spacecraft in orbit is the VENESAT-1 launched in 2008.
