Chapter 5 Spare Time Activities
Unit 5: Role Playing
A friend was given an assignment in Communication Arts class. Everyone would be
doing a movie review about an animated film. Your friend has a movie in mind, but
does not have any idea how to make the review. Give him some tips on how it should
be done.
Answer A:
If you already have a movie in mind, be familiar with its background. This would help you understand
the movie better before actually watching it. Once you are done watching, have a particular
opinion about the film. Your opinion would serve as the foundation of your appraisal. When writing
the review, start with a good lead. It could be an interesting trivia about the producer of the film,
a quotable line from the movie reflecting the movie theme, or your expectation in viewing it. After
these catchy sentences, state your opinion about the movie. This would be your introduction. The
next step would be making a recap. In doing so, limit your discussion to notable highlights, and
make sure not to narrate the whole story. Make your movie synopsis brief. Your focus of discussion
would be the next part, which is developing your review further. This is where you explain your
opinion more specifically. Justify your points well for your reader to appreciate your evaluation of
the movie. Make the review interesting. Use vivid descriptions in your rating and assessment. Keep
your work concise. Lastly, be honest in your judgment. Viewers and the film deserve an honest
opinion. Judge the movie without neutrality.
