               Discounts





               Yoon: Well, since this is our first deal, and since you wish to change the import lines to global from
                  Japanese, we would like to offer a special discount of 5% from the invoice amount. How does
                  that  sound?
               Richard: Well, we thank you for your offer, but a 5% discount is still not good enough. It will still
                  be difficult for us to do business with you. Is that really the best you can do, Mr. Yoon
               Yoon: As our Managing Director, Mr. Park, mentioned earlier, the demand for HD 1020 and WK
                  8021 has recently increased in the world market. This means more and more people are
                  believing in the high quality of our products. Other establishments abroad won’t offer any
                  discount at all. However, because it is our first time to work together, we are offering a 5%
                  discount as a sign of goodwill.
               Richard: I am well aware of your situation, but doesn’t an increase in demand provide you with
                  more leeway regarding the discounts that you can offer? Perhaps you can find a way to give us
                  a discount higher than 5%. Can you re-consider our problem?










               1.  What is your standard range in giving discounts?

                  Sample answer:
                  We offer discounts for different reasons, but in general, a 15% discount is already considered
                  big and substantial.

               2.  Do you also ask for discounts from your business partners?


                  Sample answer:
                  Yes, we also ask for discounts from our partners. I think asking for a discount is a very common
                  and natural thing among businessmen.

               3.  What do you do if your requested discount is not granted?


                  Sample answer:
                  I look for other alternatives to get the deal I want. If I don’t succeed in asking for a discount,
                  then I consider other ways that can help our company save by getting a good deal.
