All Things Bright and Beautiful John Rutter (1945 – )
John Rutter is an English composer and conductor, associated mainly with choral music,
and active internationally for many years. His larger choral works are widely performed
around the world, and many of his shorter pieces have become standards in the choral
literature, including the many Christmas carols he has composed or arranged. He has
enjoyed a long association with Clare College, Cambridge – first as student, then as
        Director of Music.

The text for “All Things Bright and Beautiful” was written by Cecil Frances Alexander
(1818 - 1895) and first published in her Hymns for Little Children in (1848). This setting
was commissioned in 1983 for a children’s choir festival.

All things bright and beautiful, The purple-headed mountain, He gave us eyes to see them,
All creatures great and small, The river running by, And lips that we might tell
All things wise and wonderful, The sunset and the morning, How great is God Almighty,
The Lord God made them all. That brightens up the sky; Who has made all things well.

Each little flower that opens, The cold wind in the winter, All things bright and beautiful,
Each little bird that sings, The pleasant summer sun, All creatures great and small,
He made their glowing colours, The ripe fruits in the garden, All things wise and wonderful,
He made their tiny wings. He made them every one: The Lord God made them all.

All things bright and beautiful, All things bright and beautiful, - Cecil Frances Alexander
All creatures great and small, All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all. The Lord God made them all.

For the Beauty of the Earth John Rutter (1945 – )
In this classic Rutter anthem, the flowing choral melodies perfectly complement the
positive message of the well-known thanksgiving text by F.S. Pierpoint (1835-1917), a
        British hymnodist and poet.
For the beauty of the earth, For the beauty of each hour
For the beauty of the skies, Of the day and of the night,
For the love which from our birth Hill and vale and tree and flower
Over and around us lies: Sun and moon and stars of light:

Lord of all, to thee we raise Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise. This our joyful hymn of praise.
