BMW Rising Scholars Selected from DMTC

         Jeb Gallman (Mechatronics), Adam Greer
         (Mechatronics), Nathaniel Scruggs (Machine Tool), and
         Juan Zepeda (Automotive) have been selected to par-
         ticipate in the BMW Rising Scholars Program. The pro-
         gram has 22 high seniors who spend a portion of their
         school day at the BMW Training Center. Upon com-
         pleting the program and graduating this year, these 4
         young men will have the opportunity to advance to the
         BMW Scholars Program at Spartanburg Community
         College.



          Clinical Studies Visits Charles Lea Center
         On September 16, Mrs. Wilhelm’s Clinical Studies class visited
         the Charles Lea Center, which serves people with intellectual
         disabilities and/or chronic medical conditions. The students com-
         pleted training led by the Charles Lea staff on wheelchair trans-
         portation with use of a wheelchair lift. In addition, they partici-
         pated in a training session covering healthcare ethics and also
         learned about the many healthcare employment opportunities
         that are available at the center.




          Mechatronics Tours Cooper Standard
          On National Manufacturing Day, Mr.
          Swofford’s Mechatronics III Honors stu-
          dents toured Cooper Standard, an industry
          leader in frameless sealing systems in the
          premium automotive market. Mr. Warren
          Snead, Human Resources Manager, spoke
          to the students about employment oppor-
          tunities and the interview process. Mr.
          Snead also led a detailed tour of the
          Cooper Standard facility, which gave stu-
          dents an up-close view of the technology
          used in manufacturing.
