Law Enforcement Class Gets Into Shape
DMTC is excited to offer Introduction to Law Enforcement as a
new program this year. Students are learning fundamentals in-
cluding patrol duty, investigations, forensics, court room testimo-
ny, and special services (SWAT, K-9). In addition, they will learn
techniques in building clearing, traffic stops, handcuffing tech-
niques, and defensive tactics. Students also participate in physical
training activities, which is an important component of this ca-
reer. Instructor Nate Cantrell was a senior investigator in the
Homicide/Violent Crimes Division, who served his entire career (20 plus years) for the Spartanburg
County Sheriff's Office. During his tenure, he was a K-9 handler, narcotics investigator, DEA task force
officer, and homicide investigator. DMTC is lucky to have such a qualified instructor to head up this
new program.
Media Technology Program Lights It Up
Media Technology is a new program being offered at DMTC
this year. The courses will cover the four basic fundamentals:
pre-production, production, post-production, and distribu-
tion. A small studio is currently being constructed, which will
allow students experience with live studio production. In the
class, students are presently learning about media produc-
tion, graphics, animation, audio, and lighting and will focus on
completing projects including picture shows, commercials,
interviews, and training/promotional videos. Instructor Jamey
Thompson has traveled the world shooting and telling stories through video and brings over 30 years
of media experience with him, the last 23 years right here in Spartanburg. He has even run his own
production company. He says, “I love producing videos and want to share that passion with our stu-
dents.” DMTC welcomes Mr. Thompson and is grateful to have a teacher with his level of expertise.
Introduction to Teaching Class Set to Begin in January
Beginning in January, DMTC will be offering a new class called Intro-
duction to Teaching. In this class students will have the opportunity
to explore instructional technology while learning about different
facets of teaching and education. They will have the chance to par-
ticipate in practical experiences and will be responsible for their own
student enterprise. The students may obtain completer status by
continuing in either the teacher cadets, health science, or business
programs. Instructor Eddie Bertrand will be teaching the class. His
background includes experience in middle school, adult education, special education, and CTE. He has
degrees in middle grades education, special education, and elementary education, and is looking for-
ward to sharing his passion for teaching with his students. Mr. Bertrand also currently sponsors our
National Technology Honor Society organization.
